Who We Are

We believe that strong libraries build strong communities.

The Friends and Foundation of the Grosse Pointe Public Library are member-supported nonprofit organizations that advocate, fundraise, and provide critical support for the Grosse Pointe Public Library

We believe the Grosse Pointe Public Library is an essential catalyst, collaborator, and connector in our community. We know that patrons of all ages and backgrounds find ideas, information, and innovative services at the library every single day. We make possible the programs and services that public dollars alone cannot support.

From our dedicated staff to our committed Board of Directors, from our enthusiastic members to our extraordinary volunteers, from our generous donors to the thousands of people who benefit from the programs we provide and support, we are what our name implies: a collection of committed, caring individuals who share a common vision of a superior free public library accessible by all.

Our History

Friends and Foundation of the Grosse Pointe Public Library

The Friends of the GPPL, established and active since 1948, is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to supporting and expanding the educational, cultural, and outreach programs of the library. The Friends sponsor activities that encourage literacy, lifelong learning, and the love of reading which stimulates interest in the Library.

The Grosse Pointe Library Foundation was established in 2004 and is a nonprofit organization that advocates, fundraises, and provides critical support for major capital projects of the Grosse Pointe Public Library. The Foundation provides the community with opportunities to invest in the success of the Library.

In working side-by-side, both groups ensure that the Grosse Pointe Public Library will meet its core mission to expand learning, inspire creativity and connect our community.
